As a senior technical member of the Data Protection engineering team, responsible for architecting and implementing the next generation disk based data protection & compliance solutions for NetApp. The job presents unique opportunities to design & develop futuristic products and to work with the best of breed engineers in the storage industry.

Essential Functions

• Be a thought leader

• Work as a member/lead of the team on projects involving existing and new data protection features

• Participate in any/all phases of a product development cycle: from product definition and design, through implementation, debugging, unit testing and early customer support

• Engage in technical communication with other parts of Network Appliance including product management, customer support and sales

• Work collaboratively with other engineers and cross functional teams to achieve aggressive goals without compromising quality

• Conduct performance and reliability analysis

• Provide sustenance support including customer escalations

• Take on ‘stretch’ assignments that influence the team, department and company’s bottom line

• Strong communication skills, both written and oral, are essential. Communications will targeted at a wide variety of internal and external audiences

• Must have in-depth knowledge and experience in OS (Unix) kernel, file system and storage

• Must have competency and proven track record of delivering complex technical projects through leadership, meeting tight deadlines without sacrificing quality

• Must have ability to translate product roadmap into technical deliverables

• Must be proficient in computer architecture, data structures and programming practices

• Must have full commitment to sound software engineering principles, practices and standards

• Must have strong passion for new technologies

• Must have demonstrated use of creative approach to problem solving

• Expected and assumed: independence, drive, motivation, willingness to go above and beyond, flexibility, and cooperative spirit

• Must have high level of proficiency in C language

• Database development experience is highly desirable

• Know-how of NDMP protocol is highly desirable

• Experience in Object Oriented Programming in C++ is a plus

• Knowledge of contemporary backup and recovery products, principles and techniques is a plus

Responsibilities and Interaction

• As a senior member in the team the person will be required to act as a mentor to an individual or group of highly motivated, technically brilliant engineers with varying experience level

• Responsible for engineering tasks which may not always be well defined or structured

• Apply experience and acquired knowledge in solving problems that are complex and require in-depth analysis

• Demonstrate good judgment in solving problems, provide possible approaches. Identifying problems proactively

• Work effectively with members in the management, across functions and external parties

• Contribute actively to product roadmap and architecture. Established subject matter expert

• Demonstrate results through leadership and influencing skills

• Self-driven. Set priorities, operate and drive results independently

Education and Experience• Minimum BE/B-Tech/BS CS/CE (M-Tech,MS, PhD. CS/CE preferred ) • Typically 8 to 12 years of relevant experience. Minimum of 3 years is required- Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex technical projects.
