Magentocommerce is maturing day by day and community is rapidly growing. One of the concerns of many Magento users and small business enterprise owners is SEO. Although Magento is already very SEO friendly when installed, there are a lot of things that can still be improved upon. Yoast is working directly with the Magento Team and the community in an effort to streamline the SEO efforts.
Optimizing Magento for Search
The first steps to optimizing Magento for search engines (making Magento SEO friendly) is to plan out your template use and your overall site design. The entire site must be search friendly, not just a list of specific aspects of Magento’s configuration. Sometimes the template has more to do with SEO success than any other factor.
If search engines do a perfect job, they read, understand, and index your entire site. When they do that, what they find is what is presented by your template. Why not prepare for the days when search engines are close to perfect? That is why Magento SEO starts with the template selection.
Magento Search Friendly URLs
Magento URLs are search friendly but there is more you can do to make them search optimal. Perhaps “search optimal URLs for Magento” is a good article that needs to be written. Since Magento runs on a form of the Zend Framework, there are numerous options for implementing SEO friendly URLs.
